slmdixon – If you’re out and about in Europe, you’ll be doing a bit of walking and while it’s not impossible to have your leg in a brace and have a good time, it’s probably not ideal in terms of mobility as well as in terms of recovery….I’d certainly look at pushing your trip out. You’re friend should also probably talk to a doctor about traveling with their injury too.

Hi! I’m going on the Ultimate European – Egypt tour on the third week of July. The itinerary says “visit the Egyptian Museum and Bazaar” as part of the included highlights. Is the entrance to the museum part of it? If not, how much does it cost?
Thanks!

Yup, anytime the word ‘visit’ is in the itinerary, it means the entry cost (if there is one) is included…..the Egyptian Museum is pretty unbelievable and probably brings home how advanced the Egyptians were more so than the Pyradmids. It’s a (very small) extra cost if you want to see some of the ‘famous’ mummies like Ramses II but I think it’s worth it to lay eyes on such an famous and influential person, well, what’s left of them after 3000 years anyway. :p

I was looking at the Bali resort. Has anyone ever stayed there and how was it? I’m not to big on the laying out in the sun in a bathing suit in public but it looks so beautiful in the pics. Can anyone tell me what its like or suggest something else that might be interesting that is not very high in price?

Its fully airconditioned and cleaner regularly.Aviod buying any drinks on the train as it is severly overpriced.

With regards to the overnight train in Egypt, it is the First Class cabin sleeper train that is used. Once the sleeper bunks are erected its quite cramped and hence its important to carry a small suitcase or a backpack.
There is a small sink in the compartment but the toilets are a unisex communal-non water type. Would avoid the food provided as its not that safe to consume on the train. Its probably best to bring some energy bars from home.
Also some really strong whiskey /alcohol for the trip will actually help out as it will act as a tranquiliser. It can get rocky initially but once you get used to it is actually very pleasant and feels like a massaging bed.

hi ‘m considering the egypt trip but concerned with the overnight train sleeping conditions can you advise on how unconfortable this is and if its air conditioned?

Yes, you can skip the guided tours, no worries at all. Although most people take advantage of all the included tours it’s certainly not uncommon for one or two people to sometimes sleep in and skip out some included sightseeing.

If you get up late and miss the bus, can you basically do whatever you want and skip out on the guided tours? Or pick and choose which ones you do?

Drinking water in Europe?....In most places it’s very safe to drink it out of the tap, in places where it’s not recommended though (Spain, Sth Italy, Greece, etc) it’s very inexpensive. Your Tour Manager will be able to help you out more once you’re on tour. For example, Rome is great as you can drink the water coming out of the fountains in the city…very cool.

It’s most certainly not too late…you can book right up until the day before the tour starts if you like….the only concern there would be availability of seat on the tour as tour spots sell out, call Contiki or talk to your travel agent to see what’s available – you’re not too late to book at all though.

Hi. I’m thinking of booking a tour or two with Contiki. One tour is the Simply Italy tour. I was just wondering how far in advance should someone book a tour? Is it too late for me to book a tour that is at the end of May or early June 2008? Thank you.

Hi,
My name is Matt and I work for Contiki’s global web team in the US.
I just read you comment on our site and I’m not too sure why you can’t get through on the number on the site..I’ve just called it from here and 020 8290 6422 works fine…..in lieu of that also try 020 8290 6777 and ask for reservations or contact the Contiki Basement on 020 7637 0802 …. All of which also work because I’ve just dialed them from here as well.
Are you calling from within the UK? If you’re outside the UK then you may need to use the UK country code as well as dropping the first 0 off the number.
I would also be curious to know who informed you that someone would contact you – did you book through a travel agent? Contiki directly? How did you book? Who ever you talked to book your tour would be the first port of call or me I I were in your situation.
Booking your tour only 3 days before it starts may have something to do with this too.
Don’t hesitate in contacting me if you think you may need more help.
Cheers
Matt

Yesterday I applied for the European Experience tour starting on Monday, I was informed someone would contact me. No one has done. The UK phone number advertised on this site (020 8290 6422) doesn’t exist.
I guess this means it’s impossible to get on the tour? Is Contiki going into meltdown?

No this is not true…couples – not just married couples – (sometimes) share with another couple. Some of the accom is twin, some quad…check the info on ‘who you share with’ for more specific info on who you share with and where you stay…

My husband and I are looking into touring the European Horizon in May, I read that at special stopovers men and women are in separate sleeping quarters, is this true for married couples?
