Florence has over 70 museums, galleries and sites crammed into its small historic center and these galleries and museums are home to some of the most famous, iconic and beautiful pieces of art ever produced. Even locals have never even come close to exploring the full potential of the riches of Florence’s cultural scene but any one who travels to Florence should try and soak up a little of the beautiful art the city has to offer.
The most two famous and most visited museums in the city are the Galleria dell’ Accademia, home to Michelangelo’s ‘David’ and the Uffizi Gallery, unquestionably the home of Renascence painting.
The Bargello museum also holds an outstanding collection of renaissance sculpture including the original ‘Eros’ sculpture (copied in places like the Eros fountain in Piccadilly Circus, London) and Donatello’s homo-erotic version of ‘David’.
