  1. It’s a good idea to look at the optionals list and price things out before you leave home so you have an idea of what it would cost if you participated in everything on the trip. It’s a good idea to participate in everything that you can afford because it adds to your experience and makes your trip a lot better. You don’t want to miss out on an optional because you may end up missing some of the best moments that your group will share together on your trip. Just keep in mind that prices you see on the website or in the brochure can change slightly.

  2. If you haven’t been up in a hot air balloon before this is definetly something to try out. The feeling of being in a hot air balloon is unique, it’s the smoothest flight you’ll ever have – if the wind hits the balloon then it just floats in a different direction, no turbulence! Plus, Albuquerque is known for it’s International Balloon Fiesta, you can go home and tell people you flew in a hot air balloon in one of the best spots in the world for ballooning. You should also get a flight certificate to take home as a souvenir with your flight.

  3. Always sign up for the group photo’s while on ANY of the tours Contiki offers. When you get home you’ll be glad that you did – it will be nice to have a professional photo of your whole group that you can hang up on the wall or put in a photo album.

  4. San Francisco is made up of a blend of many different cultures. San Francisco has the largest Chinese section of it’s city out of any of the big cities in the USA. If you travel to San Francisco part of the experience is trying food from the different areas of the city. This dinner gives you a hassle free way of going and experiencing some of the great food that’s available in San Francisco.

  5. On a Grand Southern/Eastern Discovery you’ll probably be wishing you had more time in St Augustine because it’s a beautiful city right on the water. The best way to maximize your time is to go on the ghost tour. In addition to being one of the most haunted cities in the country, St. Augustine has a rich history that includes several attacks on the city by Pirates. The ghost tour is a great way to see the city at night, learn a little bit about the oldest city in the USA and participate in some cheap entertainment for the night. The ghost tour is meant to be entertaining rather than scary – for around $7 it’s a good value for the night.

  6. This will be the first activity you’ll have the opportunity to participate in on a Wild Western, LA to the Bay or Western Highlights tour. It’s a great chance to mingle with others from the tour and get to talk to everyone. Because these tours move so quickly you should take advantage of every chance you get to mix and mingle with your fellow travellers, plus you get to hangout in the San Diego sun and take in great views of the city and harbor.
